Tolerates Drought
Its trailing habit, drought-tolerance, and distinctive petals arranged like fans around yellow centers make fan flower the perfect plant for baskets, planters, and other containers. It's also great in rock gardens. Petals are usually bright blue, though pink is also available. The plant can trail to several feet if given a very long growing season. Fanflower is usually grown as a warm-season annual, but in Zones 9 to 11 it can be grown as a perennial.
Care
Needs rich to average, moist, but well-drained soil with moderate moisture and excellent drainage (it will tolerate drought if necessary). Fertilize by working in compost two or three times during the season or by applying a slow-release fertilizer, following label directions exactly.
Planting
Plant seedlings from the nursery in spring after all danger of frost has passed.
