Needs rich, wet soils; never allow to dry out. Fertilize by working in compost two or three times during the season or by applying a slow-release fertilizer, following label directions exactly. Division is usually not necessary but can be done in the spring. Roots are large and hard to cut; use a sharp spade or small ax to break apart.
Planting
Plant established plants in spring. Can also plant in fall Zones 7 and warmer.
