How To Examine Black Eyed Susan Roots

How To Examine Black Eyed Susan Roots

We're going to take a look to see how healthy the roots are with this plant and I'm going to make another cut here, because here again, it's a fairly dense plant that spreads really quickly. I'm kind of better off braking it down into smaller clusters of plants since it is a fast spreading perennial. Now, this plant has a lot finer root hairs than the other plants. Technically, you would want to leave as much of that intact and try not to expose too many of the root hairs because you want to keep them out of the air and sunlight to help reduce shock on the plant. This is a nice cluster here. You can also, if you don't have a knife handy, you can almost use your hands and just pull away. Here's a nice little small baby plant that has nice roots on it. Believe it or not, you just pop that in the ground and this will send out new shoots and is perfectly good for planting. Here's another one. You can see this a runner from the black-eyed Susan where it's sending out a runner to send up more shoots and plants.
